About the PONSHOP The PONSHOP
mission is to promote fun and creativity through the practice of art and
design. Owners Scarlett Suhy-Pons and her husband Gabriel Pons met
while they were studying Architecture at Virginia Tech in 1995. Their
mutual goal of sharing a space where they can work, exhibit, and educate
was realized when they acquired a studio at LibertyTown Arts Workshop in
Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Gabriel Pons
Gabriel Pons attributes his interest in art and architecture to his
early fascinations with science fiction films and comics as well as
album cover artwork. In 1987 his older brother introduced him to
skateboarding, which consumed his teenage years and exposed him to a
whole new punk aesthetic in music and art. While in architecture
school, Gabriel expanded upon the typical mediums of architectural
drafting and modeling and initiated painting and collage as another
means of “rendering” space. The architecture studio also provided him
the environment to explore other media such as photography and video.
The subject matter of his work includes architectural monuments, maps,
puzzles, fictitious characters and narratives.
As a way of returning to the roots of inspiration and merging both
recreation and artistic endeavors, Gabriel has been designing skateboard
graphics under the MONO (pronounced
moe-no) label since 2002.
Scarlett Suhy-Pons
Scarlett Suhy-Pons has been working in ceramics since
being introduced to the medium in college. Scarlett later moved to New
York and became one of the founding members of the Sunset Park Ceramic
Co-op. Her involvement in a cooperative studio not only allowed her to
sharpen her craft, but also propelled her commercial activity. Scarlett
began taking commissioned work, which fostered a constructive dialogue
with clients as well as challenged her skill and creativity. In 2004,
Scarlett launched her website,
www.scarlettwares.com, and has been
specializing in making ceramic pieces intended for everyday use in the
home. She works primarily using slab and coil techniques to construct
dinnerware and vases. Her style balances an acute aesthetic with the
sensibility for function and ergonomics.
Commissioned Work
We welcome commissioned work and enjoy working with clients to provide a
unique piece of artwork for the home or office.
