Urban Decay 5: Opening Night Recap

UrbanDecay_14_webSaturday, June 7 2014 was the opening night for Urban Decay 5 at The Fridge in Washington DC.  2014 marked the fifth anniversary of Urban Decay, which features a cross section of contemporary low brow artists from the DC region and abroad.  Curated by Deb Yarrington of Urban Art Syndicate, Urban Decay highlights contemporary artwork that is born from a generation of artists raised on pop culture, hot rod art, tattoo art, and skateboarding. PONSHOP is proud to be one of the sponsors for this year's event and coordinated the live artist demonstrations in front of the gallery during the opening reception.  Thanks to all contributing Urban Decay 5 artists, Urban Art Syndicate, The Fridge, and Bass Radio.FM and Expansion Broadcast.  Below are pics from the opening night.

Urban Decay 5 Exhibit Announced

UD-Whurk-Final_web PONSHOP is excited to be one of the sponsors in this year's Urban Decay 5 event at The Fridge (516 8th Street SE Washington, DC) Saturday, June 7 from 7-11pm.  Urban Decay 5 is a celebration of lowbrow art and culture featuring work from contemporary graffiti and street artists as well as tattoo and custom vinyl toy artists.  Saturday's opening reception includes live painting demonstrations from five participating artists.  Urban Decay 5 runs through June 29, 2014.

Urban Decay 5 features the work of: Carlos Aguilar, Javier Padilla, Ashley Chiang, Gregg Deal, Jeremy Gann, Aaron Wilder, HKS181, Gabriel Pons, Damon Farkas, Michael Owen, Richard Raboteau, Matt Corrado, James Walker, Asad ULTRA Walker, Jack Labadie, Sylvia Ortiz, Hamilton Glass, Kevin Rodrigue, Jamaal LamaaJ, Drew Storm Graham, Steve Strawn, Superwaxx, DeeTen, Paula Ibey, Wes Roos, Brendan Tierney, James Fuller, Ben Larsen, Conrad Coe, Joseph Regan, and Bengi Baker.

Urban Decay 4 Exhibition Announced

UD4Final-1_web We are excited to announce that Urban Decay will be entering its fourth year of exhibition at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia.  Urban Decay 4 celebrates low brow and contemporary art and music.  Emerging talents are showcased alongside accomplished artists with a special focus on the Vinyl toy scene.  PONSHOP will be one of the sponsors in this 2-month long exhibit and we look forward to celebrating with you all during the opening event on Saturday, June 8 from 7-11pm.

Urban Decay 4 also has a call for artists for customized vinyl toy submissions.  Entries are due May 25-26, 2013.  Click Here for a complete prospectus.

Gabriel Pons will be one of the many featured artists on exhibit and will take part in a panel discussion with Kenny Wells and Jack Labadie about the influence of Hip-Hop music on contemporary art (Sat. June 8 at 5pm).  The grounds of the Workhouse will also be the site of a day-long mural demonstration by HKS181, Kevin Rodrigue, and Jeremy Gann. UD4Final-2_web

Urban Decay III: Part 2

Above is video of the opening night of Urban Decay 3 at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton Virginia.  The opening reception featured live painting demonstrations and live music by Lightspeed Rescue and Shade Parade.  Thanks to our summer intern Isaac for filming and editing.  Below is an album of the latest work of mine currently on exhibit at "Urban Decay 3" - the show runs through June 24.

Urban Decay 3: Opening Reception June 2, 2012

Saturday June 2 marked the opening night of "Urban Decay 3" at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia.  This is the third year of "Urban Decay" and PONSHOP is excited to be one of the sponsors for the opening reception.  The evening kicked off with an art talk including Kenny Brown, RSIN, James Walker, and Gabriel Pons.  The reception included live music by Lightspeed Rescue and Shade Parade as well as demonstrations by Jesse Brown, Carlos Aguilar, and Kenny Brown.  Artists HSK 181, Gregg Deal and Asad ULTRA Walker collaborated on murals in the outdoor quad area, with each canvas being raffled off at the end of the evening. Special thanks to Deb Yarrington and Amy Lust of the Workhouse Arts Center for their curatorial, promotional, and organizational expertise.  Also a big shout out to All City Print and Design as well as the Urban Decay 3 volunteers who kept the evening's events running smoothly.  Urban Decay 3 runs through June 24.

Urban Decay is in its third year! PONSHOP is proud to announce themselves as one of the sponsors, aiding in bringing you another amazing art event. Gabriel Pons is one of the many featured artists for this exhibit and will join fellow artists Kenny Brown, James Walker, and RSIN in an exclusive Art Talk with the public (5-6pm), giving their insight on of the state of contemporary low-brow art from vinyl sculpture to painting. Join us at the opening reception on Saturday June 2nd at 5:00pm in the main gallery of the Lorton Arts Center. There will be music, food, entertainment, live artist demos, raffles, and of course, great art!  Urban Decay III runs through June 24, 2012. Urban Decay Show Announced

I am pleased to announce that I'll be taking part of "Urban Decay" - an exhibit of Custom Vinyl and Lowbrow Art at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. The show runs from April 28 through May 9 and the opening reception will be on Saturday, May 1. The opening reception promises to be jam packed full of spectacle with a number of the featured artists (listed below) doing live demonstrations on vinyl toys and canvas. Do Check it Out!
